Healthy Back Bag – The Secret is In the Bag

Hi! My name is Julie. I would like to tell you about how I became attached to this backpack purse. I used to go through my days wondering why I had neck and shoulder pain. Was I stressed out? Did I not know how to relax? Was it my bed? Was I sleeping wrong? Maybe if I changed pillow.

My chiropractor told me it was because I sat at a computer desk all day long. But surely there is a better solution then changing careers or going to the chiropractor once a month for the rest of my life.?

One day my co-worker and good friend Kim mentioned to me that my neck and shoulder pain might be caused by the purse I was carrying. My purse was pretty heavy. I considered this for a moment. I do love my handbags. This would be a good excuse to buy a new purse! And she mentioned it was the best leather organizer purse ever.

She told me it was one of the backpack purse made by a company called Ameribag, so I started searching the Internet. I discovered that they make their shoulder bags in a way so as NOT to cause neck and shoulder pain. I was excited!

When I received my backpack purse in the mail I couldn’t believe it! I am an organizing fanatic and this was one of those purses with lots of pockets and zippers and secret compartments. How could I have missed this one?

I eagerly filled my backpack purse with all my belongings. Everything had a place. This made me happy. Even if it did not solve my neck and shoulder problem I found the ultimate purse!

Since as far back as I can remember I have tried to find the perfect organizer purse. One that is so organized that all I have to do is reach down into the deep abyss and pull out exactly what I want. I finally found it!

Two weeks went by with my new backpack purse and sure enough the pain in my neck and shoulders stopped. To this day I carry nothing but purses made in a healthy fashion.

I admit…being someone that loves all different kinds of handbags I have tried to buy other purses only to be quickly reminded that the neck and shoulder pain will return after only a couple of weeks.

Some of the things that I love about this backpack purse:

•    I can throw it in the washing machine and it looks like new again.
•    It is extremely convenient to carry. It hangs over your shoulder and back in a distributed manner that makes it comfortable no matter how heavy it is. It puts    absolutely no strain on your neck and shoulders.

•    When I am out at a restaurant or a movie it hangs comfortably over my knee so that I don’t forget it when it is time to go.
•    It like the way it feels and hangs down my back. I especially like the way it looks.
•    It has one of those handy little latches on the inside to hang my keys on.
•    It has a place to put my pens.
•    It has a pocket for my phone.
•    No make-up bag required. They have this covered too!
•    It even has an outer pocket that fits a bottle of water perfectly.
•    And pockets are endless!

The North Face Base Camp messenger bag comes in the only two sizes you would need, small and large. If you are looking for a comfortable messenger bag that will withstand tons of abuse and pack a ton of stuff then you've found the right bag. I'm going to go into detail about the messenger bag in the next section.

The only difference between the two bags is the sizing, the small is ideal for daily commuting if you don't need to carry lots of stuff with you. It comes in at 800 cubic inches or 13 liters with dimensions of 12" x 12" x 4". The large on the other hand comes in at a whipping 1525 cubic inches and a nice 15" x 18" x 5". I prefer the large personally. We got some review bags at the office and I defiantly made sure that I got the biggest one as I tend to carry around lots of junk while I'm commuting.

Messenger Bag Exterior:

The North Face Base Camp is made with PVC tarpaulin so you'll never have to worry about leaks. This stuff feels legit. I could ride with it all winter and not have a problem. The shoulder straps are very adjustable and I even got the large bag to fit on my wife and look nice. One feature that I really love is the hip belt. It's nice to keep your load secured while running or biking. There's nothing worse than having your bag go flying. The bag also has some of the best compression straps I've ever seen on a messenger bag. Having a big bag but nothing to tie it down and keep it compact is the worst. Good job, North Face.

Internal Components:

The inside of the bag contains two big mesh compartments with zippers one in the main compartment and one on the underside of the flap, pretty standard but tried and true. The bag contains an internal organizer and divider pocket to keep everything from getting unorganized.

Verdict:

Overall, I think The North Face Base Camp Messenger Bag line is pretty incredible and a great bang for the buck. I feel confident saying that as North Face products come with a life time warranty and you really can't go wrong with that.

Internet Tips and Tricks for the Backpacker

As a backpacker you can spend quite a bit of time using the Internet to research your destination, make reservations and staying in touch with friends back home. Follow the below tips to avoid common pitfalls and get the most out of the web.

Picking an Internet café

These days you can find Internet cafés almost everywhere. Ask which connection the Internet café has, it is a huge difference between dial-up and 100 megabit broadband so it may be worth going to the more expensive place if their connection is significantly faster.

Usually the customers share the available bandwidth in the Internet café which means the more clients the slower the connection. An empty café may therefore not necessarily be a bad thing. Check the prices and if there is a minimum time consumption before using the computer.

Hotspots which enable wireless access are spreading quite fast these days. You can find them in airports, shopping malls, restaurants, etc. Sometimes they are free for clients so if you bring your mobile device (laptop, cell phone, etc) you can connect without the need to visit an Internet café. There is also a service called FON which is a large wireless connection community where you get free wireless access to the Internet if you share your connection at home.

If you need to connect your digital camera/media player etc bring a USB-cable. If you do not have one check with the café if they have a USB-cable or a card reader so that you can remove the memory card from your device and connect it to the computer.

Surfing the web

More than once we have composed a nice mail, hit the send button only to get an error message in return. Hitting the back button then only returned a blank screen. ¤&#¤/&#/&¤!! The best way to avoid this is to open up a text editor (e.g. notepad or WordPad) and write your message there. When you are finished select the text, copy it, switch to your e-mail and paste the text.

Those from countries using unusual letters (such as the Swedish letters å, ä, ö) may find it very frustrating trying to find out how to type these letters on foreign keyboards. There are several approaches to solve this:

• Open up Microsoft word. Go to Insert, Symbol, select Normal text, select your characters and press the button Insert.

• Send an e-mail to yourself which contains the special characters while you are at home.

  • Open the mail when you are in the Internet café

  • Select all the special characters.

  • Copy them (use the keyboard shortcut for copying - it is normally ctrl+C).

  • Switch to your e-mail program.

  • Start writing your e-mail.

  • When you need to use your special characters paste them (use the keyboard shortcut for pasting, it is normally: ctrl+V) then delete the ones you do not want to use.

  • Next time you need the special characters just paste them again (there is no need to copy them again unless you copied something else later).

• Learn the ASCII-code (a three digit number) of the character you want to type. You can then type the character by holding down the alt-button and typing the ASCII-code. Do not release the alt-button until you have typed all the numbers. If you want to type the letter Å for example just hold down alt and type 143. For a complete listing check out Wikipedia. If someone with a different character set than yours has been using your computer you may find all sort of strange things happening when using the keyboard. Maybe someone from Japan just used the computer and switched to Japanese character set. If the computer has another language set (e.g. Japanese) you can change back to English by right clicking the language bar (bottom right corner with two capital letters e.g. EN) and selecting your preferred language.

If you are on a really slow connection and have a lot of e-mails to open it is useful to right click each message and select open in new window or open the messages in a new tab. While you start reading the first mail, the others will be loading in the background. It may take longer for the windows to open but you save time instead of opening one mail, reading it, going back, opening another mail, etc.

If you are on a slow connection you can disable pictures to make downloading go faster. In Internet Explorer go to: Tools/Internet Options/Advanced. Scroll down to Multimedia and uncheck the checkbox Show pictures. This can drastically speed up your surfing.

It is also a good idea to have several windows open if you are visiting different web sites (in the Internet Explorer menu bar select: File/New/Window). Type the URLs in the different windows and read the one which loads first while the others load. Switch between the windows as they finish loading.

Sometimes you get asked if you want the browser or chat program (e.g. MSN Messenger) to remember your password. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT select yes if you are on a shared computer. Choosing yes means that your password is saved and the next person who surfs to the same site can get into it without knowing the password. Also do not forget to log out after you finish, do not just close the window. Many times we have been to Internet cafés where someone left MSN Messenger open while they were logged in. We could easily have opened their mail, sent messages to their contacts, etc. Log out.

If you enjoy playing video games you can often find the same game installed on the Internet cafés. If you want to keep going you can save your save game to the hard drive and e-mail it to yourself. Next time you want to continue playing just download it to the save game directory and you are set to go.

If you connect your camera/media player/memory card to a computer you should take care when disconnecting your device. Before you disconnect your device click on the icon in the lower right corner called Safe removal of hardware (if available). Select your device in the window which pops up and select disconnect. Wait until you get a confirmation message that your hardware can be removed safely before disconnecting your device. This process informs Windows that you intend to remove the device and ensures that you do not run into problems e.g. by removing the device while data is being saved.

A good way to get information you need while on your trip is to post a question in a web community such Virtual Tourist, wait one or two days and then check it again. You can get notifications to your e-mail if someone replies to your post on the discussion forum so you do not have to log in to the community to check if you have received any answers.

Chat programs

Using a chat program such as Windows Live Messenger), Skype or ICQ is a great way to keep in touch with people at home. You can keep conversations going with several people at the same time, send pictures, etc. Many programs also allow you to use a web cam and a microphone which enables you to make simple video calls to people. You can sometimes also make calls to fixed telephones and cell phones at very competitive rates. Check out your preferred service for details.

Personal Experience - The Evil E-mail Esquapade

Once when I was logging in to Hotmail on an remote Internet café the guy before me had forgotten to log off. I could not resist the opportunity and quickly sent a fake love letter to a woman randomly chosen from his contact list. As if this was not enough, I came back a few days later and, can you believe it, the same guy had forgotten to log off again. Evil as I am (sometimes) I read her reply. She said she was a bit unsure of what he meant - for obvious reasons. I replied to her once more telling how much I really loved her. Perhaps they are married now. Sometimes you have to help people getting their feelings kick-started :)

Best backpack for traveling with my digital SLR?

I have been shoping around for a backpack that can hold my SLR, papers/maps, water bottle, maybe my laptop and toher stuff a backpack holds lol. I am a missionary and i am in some very rough areas, and rough conditions; so light, and mobile are huge to me, i will even be up to a should bag. Need it to be low in price as well. I dont have much money to spend and my current camera bag isnt making the cut any more. Any help?

Runners-up spot up for grabs
After a comfortable 2-0 victory against Greece in their opening game, South Korea were brought back down to earth in dramatic fashion by an emphatic defeat to a ruthless Argentina side. Huh Jung-Moo's players competed well with the South Americans until the third goal was conceded and there was enough to suggest that they can still get through the group with a positive result.

Led by captain Park Ji-Sung, South Korea proved to be an effective outfit against Greece, combining solid defensive organisation with attacking flair through the likes of Lee Chung-Yong Park Chu-Young. The players will be hurting after the Argentina result, but as long as the sound team ethic remains intact, Huh's side should be able to progress.

Nigeria's task is simple. They must beat South Korea and hope that Argentina defeat Greece. If that happens, they will progress to the second round on goal difference, a reward of sorts for keeping the deficit against Argentina down to a single goal, while South Korea capitulated. The Super Eagles have a team full of talented individuals and against both Argentina and Greece showed great promise in the attacking third, though the main problem has been finishing the chances that have been created. Lars Lagerback's side will need to be at their penetrative best to beat South Korea, but will have the support of a continent hoping that Nigeria don't become the second African side to be eliminated.

South Korea player to watch: Yeom Ki-Hun. One of South Korea's most dangerous outlets, Kim has proved to be effective as either a left-winger in a 4-4-2 formation or as the left-sided forward in an attacking trio alongside Park Ji-Sung and Park Chu-Young. A tricky player with bags of pace, he will be asked to test the inexperienced Nigeria right-back Samuel Inkoom.

Nigeria player to watch: Vincent Enyeama. Nigeria's star at the 2010 finals so far, he has been instrumental in keeping the Super Eagles' defeats respectable, with FIFA naming him man of the match for his displays against both Argentina and Greece. A mistake against the Greeks was overshadowed by numerous other saves and he has displayed consistent catching and shot-stopping ability - as a certain Lionel Messi will testify.

Key Battle: Dickson Etuhu v Kim Jung-Woo. With Sani Kaita suspended, there will be more responsibility for Nigeria's tough-tackling defensive midfielder Etuhu. He struggled to do the job of two men after Kaita was sent-off against Greece but his athleticism and physicality was impressive against Argentina and he will be charged with stifling Park Ji-Sung and playmaker Kim. A busy central midfielder with a very effective pressing game, Kim has the ability to pick a telling pass and comparisons with Paul Scholes are heightened because of his tendency to be booked for rash challenges.

Trivia: On the day after giving up four goals to Argentina, South Korea goalkeeper Jung Sung-Ryong had some good news: his wife giving birth to their new baby boy.

Stats: South Korea has failed to advance from the group stage six times, the third-highest total in World Cup history. The only teams not to advance as often as South Korea are Scotland (8) and Mexico (7).

Odds: Nigeria (3.75), South Korea (2.60), the draw (3.25) are all on offer at Bet365, while Nigeria to lead at half-time but South Korea to win is at 34.00.

Prediction: South Korea were embarrassed by a hugely talented Argentina side, but proved against Greece that they are capable of winning against a side of lesser quality. Nigeria have flattered to deceive so far and it should be the continent of Asia and not Africa that will have a representative advance to the second round.

Lagerback confident Eagles can be super

Nigeria coach Lars Lagerback is confident the Super Eagles will finally show their worth in the crucial Group B showdown against South Korea.

The African side goes into the encounter in Durban on the back of two straight defeats in their opening World Cup matches.

"I am very positive about our game," said Lagerback. "Let's hope we can show that an African team can play well and get a result."

Lagerback expects a battle from start to finish against the 2002 semi-finalists, who beat Greece before losing 4-1 to Argentina.

"It's going to be difficult," he said. "But this is a World Cup and every game is tough.

"I nevertheless believe we can win. I think the team has the right attitude. We have a really good team and I hope we can show it to the world."

Despite losses to Greece and Argentina, Lagerback's men can still qualify for the last 16 provided they beat South Korea and the South Americans take three points from Greece.

"We hope Argentina will help us along the way," he said. "But we have to concentrate on our game and get a result. As a coach, nothing is impossible and Greece could beat Argentina but really I expect Argentina to win that game."

Should Nigeria fail, Lagerback has neither confirmed nor denied if this would be his last game in charge of the Super Eagles.

"Every coach always prepares to stay longer in a tournament," he said.

"We haven't discussed that between me and the federation. We will see after the World Cup."

Lagerback has not ruled out making changes to the side that lost 2-1 against Greece.

Nigeria captain Kanu could be given playing time having sat out their opening two matches.

"I could make changes," he said. "Everybody in the team wants to play this game. Kanu is in the picture and it's quite possible he could play."

The former Sweden coach said the team has not been affected by the death threats received by Sani Kaita after he was sent off in the 2-1 defeat to Greece.

"It's not a good thing," he said. "I think it's very sad that this situation comes out.

"But it's something that we have to handle and I think the players have handled it really well.

"I was also happy to see how the players supported Kaita in the team's meeting."

The 61-year-old is confident left-back Taye Taiwo and Uwa Echiejile will feature in the match after both players sustained minor injuries against Greece.

South Korea coach Huh Jung-moo is confident his side can reach the last 16 of the World Cup for the first time on foreign soil.

The Taegeuk Warriors are second in Group B alongside Greece on three points and know that victory over Nigeria would secure a place in the next round provided Greece fail to beat group leaders Argentina in the other pool game.

"We are going to keep an eye on the other match," said Jung-moo. "But the important thing is for us to play a good game and get a good result.

"Our players up until now have been preparing for the round of 16. We are almost there.

"We have been preparing for this for almost a year. This is the last match before we reach our goal and we are really going to fight hard in order to achieve this."

South Korea began their campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over Greece, but lost 4-1 to a rampant Argentina on Thursday.

Jung-moo believes his side have not been affected by that heavy loss.

"We are simply looking forward to progressing to the round of 16," he said. "We left behind us the game against Argentina and our only focus is on beating Nigeria.

"My players are confident and are ready to play this important game. I believe in my players and I think we can do a good job. We have 23 players that have potential and we have a strong idea as to what we as a team have to do to come out triumphant."

Jung-moo has not ruled out making tactical alterations for the game and said: "We have a different strategy for each match. Perhaps we were a little bit defensive when playing against Argentina.

"But I don't want my players to focus on just attacking against Nigeria. I want my team to play a balanced game in order to win."

Jung-moo could give veteran forward Ahn Jung Hwan some playing time against Nigeria.

question on packing for a trip round asia after a year in new zealand?

i am planning to go on a gap year in new zelaand for a year after which time i am going to go round asia for a fortnight visiting various asian countries. what i would like advice on is should i take to large bags for the asian section of the trip ie a travel pack for my clothes and a seperate bag on wheels for all the soveniers i will obtain. this will also be addition in a laptop bag which i hope to fit inside one of my two other bags.

Whatever you're packing... please try to go back and be *ruthless*, only take what you absolutely need. Definitely take only one bag if possible, you will be cursing your stuff as you lug it all around the place. Remember all that stuff will still be there when you get back. If while in Asia you absolutely need another bag you can pick up a cheap one there.

Diaper Bag Purse

Have you ever taken a diaper bag or purse to Disneyland? What do you do with it on rides?

My daughter is young enough that I need to take a diaper bag with us when we go, but I don't know what to do with it when we go on rides. Any suggestions?

Also, what snacks can I take for her in the diaper bag? Can I take water bottles?

I encourage you to take a backpack, (we use a hydration pack) filled with snacks. (we eat breakfast in the room or on the way, have a decent air conditioned lunch during the heat, munch on snacks for dinner and grab "dinner" back in our room) They check the bags going in but they do not mind if you have snacks and beverages. (no glass bottles though) A great website to visit is www.disboards.com Make sure you visit the budget section and the family section. They are absolutely amazing! Another great idea is to ask for ice water from counter service, it is free and you don't have to carry water around.

You can take the bags on the rides with you.

ps pack your kids outfits in ziploc bags to make mornings much easier! (dad can even help a kid get dressed and look good this way. LOL)
